Intervention Areas (MAD-IO)

The Madagascar and Indian Ocean Islands Hotspot includes the nation of Madagascar and the neighboring islands and archipelagos of Mauritius, the Comoros (including Mayotte), the Seychelles, La Réunion and the Scattered Islands of the Western Indian Ocean (Iles Eparses). The land area of hotspot is estimated to be 600,461 km2, of which 592,040 km2 are represented by the island of Madagascar alone
The number of key biodiversity areas (KBA) is 79 in all, including 39 for Madagascar and 40 small islands
